Natural stone is a product of nature, formed over millions of years from minerals and organic substances. It is quarried from the earth and used in its natural form, offering unique patterns, colors, and textures. It is a material, borrowed directly from nature, that lasts forever and should be treated with the utmost care and consideration.
At Borrowed Earth, we utilize natural stone to create beautiful surfaces with the intent to enhance spaces. Our tiles, panels, bricks, and custom projects spur innovation and are suited for various interior design and architectural projects.
Some applications of Borrowed Earth’s selection of natural stone include interior design, interior architecture, exterior architecture, facades, architectural skins, landscape architecture, commercial architecture & design, kitchen & bath design, sculpture, and more!
The primary types of natural stone include marble, limestone, travertine, granite, quartz and sandstone. Each has unique properties and appearances suitable for various applications.
Marble, limestone, and travertine are formed from Calcium Carbonate. Granite, Quartz, and Sandstone are formed from Silica. No matter the composition, Borrowed Earth excels in creating dimensional, textured elements from these natural materials.

Natural stones are sourced from quarries all over the world. Each region has distinct geological formations, giving stones from different areas unique characteristics. No matter the origin, Borrowed Earth excels in creating dimensional, textured elements from these natural materials.
Traditional quarrying processes may give rise to quarry remnants that go to waste, but at Borrowed Earth our vision is to utilize 100% of the material that we extract from the earth. By utilizing remnants, we can truly create a carbon neutral, sustainable, and zero-waste economy of stone. We champion sustainability and are looking to do our part to advance the culture in this way around the responsible extraction, usage, and renewal of natural stone.
Choosing natural stone involves considering the application (interior or exterior), desired aesthetics, maintenance requirements, and durability. Consulting with our team of sales and design professionals is paramount in realizing your design intent and ensuring the most suitable stones are used to bring your stone projects to life.
We offer warranties on our natural stone products, covering manufacturing defects. We celebrate “Perfect Imperfections” in stone and do not offer any warranty against natural veining, fissures, fossils, naturally occurring in the material.
Natural stone finishes include polished, honed, brushed and leather. Each finish affects the stone’s look and other qualities like slip resistance, making them suitable for different applications.
Natural stone is available in a wide range of colors, from subtle beige and grays to vibrant blues and greens, depending on the mineral composition of the stone. At Borrowed Earth, our primary selection includes eight different materials:
However, we are not limited to these eight materials, and we can source other stones and materials to match your design intent. We also work with Sandstone, Granite, and Quartz.
Consider the overall aesthetic, lighting, traffic, durability, weather, and the space's intended use to select natural stone. Application factors such as indoor versus outdoor, interior space, and more will affect which stone color is the most suitable for your project. Neutral colors offer versatility, while bold colors can serve as focal points. All marble, limestone, quartzite, sandstone and granite can be used indoor and outdoor, however each material ages differently and responds to the elements in its own unique way.
Maintenance varies by stone type; however, regular sealing, gentle cleaning, and immediate spill cleanup are common recommendations to maintain natural stone’s beauty. We recommend that all handling of stone including installation and care should follow the TCNA guidelines. We are happy to provide installation guides as are available on our product pages, or consult with you directly to ensure the proper maintenance of your natural stone project and endeavors.
Natural stone design has been utilized since the dawn of civilization. When properly maintained, natural stone installations can last indefinitely, making it a sustainable choice for both residential and commercial properties.
